I was fortunate enough not to have struggled with identity in the same way pediatrician Daniel Summers did in his childhood, realizing that he was gay in an evangelical, fundamentalist household. But I can very much relate to the sense of lost heritage, of the longing to reconnect one’s identity with a rich Jewish culture in which you weren’t raised.
